Meesha Bishop, adopted from the Oregon Humane Society, has worked as an Animal Assisted Therapy dog and hiked most of the trails for the book "Best Hikes with Dogs, Oregon." She thanks us for our time and care and we thank her for her generosity of spirit.

On February 14th, 1996 I went to the Humane Society to find a kitten. My doctor had advised me the companionship would help treat my depression. I glanced at the cats, but they seemed too old. I looked at the kittens, but they didn't seem to have much personality. One of the older cats was trying to get my attention - It was Skittles. The cage door was opened and Skittles leaped out onto my chest in such a way that his front legs were wrapped around my neck, without using claws, and he rubbed my neck and purred so loud! I just wrapped my arms around him and looked up and said "Okay god, I guess I was dense, even I can take this big of a hint!" I adopted him - after all, he had already adopted me!

He was more than a "Therapy Cat," he was there throughout the problems of life, always finding some way to help me control my emotions and not get so lost in them. He would always know how I was feeling and crawl into my lap and hug me like he did at the Humane Society, and allow me to cry into his fur until I felt better. He would then jump down and clean himself, always giving me a look that I couldn't help but laugh at that said "It's salty!"

Skittles developed diabetes last year, and at fourteen-and-a-half years passed away from lymphoma cancer. He had an extra thirteen-and-a-half year of life due to my adopting him. He did his "job" very, very well. I miss him
